Closes 14 Apr 2025

Opened 14 Mar 2025

Overview

Our Supplementary Proposals for Scottish Parliament Constituencies

Below is a map showing our Supplementary Proposals for consultation.

We are only consulting on the following two constituencies:

  • Almond Valley
  • Bathgate

In the map below, the coloured areas are our latest, Supplementary Proposals for constituencies. The black line denotes the Additional Proposals boundaries consulted on in January and February 2025. The Boundary is amended by Polbeth to keep Polbeth in an Almond Valley constituency (see inset).

What is happening?

The Second Review of Scottish Parliament Boundaries started in September 2022.

Since then we have held four rounds of consultation, most recently on Additional Proposals for constituencies between January and February 2025. Following useful feedback and alternative suggestions from that consultation we are now consulting on Supplementary Proposals for two constituencies.

For all other constituencies we have agreed Final Recommendations, subject to satisfactory constituencies being designed in neighbouring areas.

Our Review rules state that the electorate of constituencies must be as close to the electoral quota as practicable. In addition, when we are designing constituencies we take into account other factors set out in legislation, namely: local authority areas, special geographical circumstances, maintenance of local ties and any inconveniences caused by the alteration of the existing boundaries.

Why is this happening?

Boundaries Scotland undertakes reviews of Scottish Parliament boundaries every 8-12 years to ensure each region or constituency has an equal number of electors.

What Boundaries Scotland says

Once again we want to hear the views of the public on our proposals, we will reflect on responses to the consultation before agreeing our Final Recommendations. We strongly encourage people to make their views heard.

This review is of electoral boundaries (constituencies and regions) only and therefore does not affect any other boundaries (UK constituencies, local authorities, community councils, health boards etc).  For individuals, this review does not affect the council area in which they live nor the way local services are accessed.

Why your views matter

Your views play a vital role in shaping constituency boundaries and provide important local knowledge to help us improve our proposals.
